The Employment and Appeals Committee meets to
consider and, if necessary, make recommendations to the council on
policies that affect the terms and conditions of employment for
council officers.
The Committee also considers any other matters
relating to pay, pensions and gratuities and on health and safety
issues. Whenever it is necessary to consider a council
employee’s appeal against dismissal or other grievances, an
Employment Appeals Panel of three councillors is convened to
consider the case.
You do not need to be a member of the
committee but you do need to take part in relevant appeals training
and appropriate briefings before you can sit on an Employment
Appeals Panel. This is because decisions could be subject to a
legal challenge if adequate training has not been provided or
received.
